Terrifying and concerning visuals have once again emerged from Nepal, nestled in the lap of the Himalayas. A sudden and fierce flash flood hit the Budhigandaki River in Gorkha district, Nepal, sweeping away everything in its path within moments. This sudden torrent completely engulfed Salleri Bazaar and its surrounding areas.
How Did This Sudden Deluge Happen?
According to local reports and initial information, a major landslide occurred unexpectedly in the upper hilly regions. Due to this landslide, the natural flow of the Budhigandaki River was suddenly blocked midway, creating a massive water reservoir-like buildup behind the blockade. Within moments, when this natural debris and dam gave way, a terrifying and uncontrollable rush of water surged downstream. Such sudden floods leave virtually no time to react.
The Scene of Devastation and Condition of Locals
Due to this ferocious flash flood, dozens of homes, small shops, and several strong suspension bridges built along the riverbanks were washed away like straw by the strong currents. The speed of the deluge was so intense that locals were forced to flee immediately to higher and safer ground to save their lives. Panic has gripped the entire region due to this disaster. According to initial reports, several people are also reported missing, while local administration and rescue teams are continuously engaged in search operations.
Strict Administration Warning and High Alert
In view of such recurring natural disasters, the Nepalese administration and disaster management agencies have urged people living in low-lying areas and near the river to remain on high alert. People are continuously being appealed not to go anywhere near the river as water levels rise.
Experts believe that due to continuously changing weather, heavy rainfall, and weakening hills in the Himalayan region, such threats are steadily increasing, posing a major crisis to the normal lives of communities living in remote mountainous areas.
